About DashCheck and our data
DashCheck answers one question per car: does it have Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and are they wired or wireless?
Where the data comes from
- Apple's CarPlay available-models list: which models and years support CarPlay. It does not say wired or wireless.
- Google's Android Auto compatibility page: lists carmakers with a starting year ("Models from 2017+"), not individual models. So we only treat it as context, never as confirmation for a specific model.
- Cars.com's yearly lists of cars with wireless CarPlay / Android Auto (2019, 2021-2025), retrieved via the Internet Archive. They mark models where wireless is offered on at least some trims or packages.
- Toyota's official "Audio Multimedia & Connected Services Feature Applicability" PDFs (MY2022-2026), which separate wired and wireless per model, plus Toyota's MY2020-2021 Connected Services applicability charts, whose footnote says CarPlay needs "an approved data cable into the USB media port" (we use those charts for CarPlay only, because their Android Auto footnote does not mention a cable).
- Carmakers' own US material that states the connection type in words: Nissan and INFINITI press kits, Honda Info Center spec and features-by-trim pages, Honda owner's-manual sections, Acura Info Center feature pages and Acura/Honda newsroom spec releases, Mazda USA newsroom pages, Subaru.com features pages, trim-comparison PDFs and media releases, Lexus newsroom "What's New" releases, Hyundai newsroom spec and price-sheet PDFs, and Stellantis (Jeep) media releases. Each car page quotes the sentence or table row we relied on and links to it.
- Hand-checked sources for specific cases (for example Tesla, Rivian and GM EVs without CarPlay, and owner's manuals), each cited on its page.
Our rules
- We never guess. "Wired" or "wireless" appears only when a cited source says so. Otherwise the page says "unconfirmed".
- Two documented rules fill gaps: cars.com reports that factory wireless CarPlay started with BMW in model year 2017, so 2016 CarPlay cars are marked wired. Cars.com's 2019 survey found wireless CarPlay on only 27 Audi, BMW and MINI models, so other 2019 mainstream-brand models are marked wired.
- Wireless is often limited to certain trims or packages. Pages say so when the source does. When a maker lists wireless for some trims and wired for others, the page says "yes, on some versions".
- A carmaker phrase such as "wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto" is read as covering both, because that is the maker's own wording. An owner's-manual section that only describes plugging in by USB proves a wired connection exists; it does not rule out wireless on other trims.
